Croquet handicaps are a means by which competitive players recognise each other's abilities and players of different ability can have a game of croquet on more level terms. Each player has a handicap which is recorded on a green card.
In level play matches and tournaments (not usual club play), the players exchange Index points at the end of each singles game (not in doubles).
In handicap play matches and tournaments, the difference between the player's respective handicaps determine how many extra shots the weaker player can have in each game (eg a H5 playing a H2 will get 3 extra turns in each game).
