End of Season (Posted: 2 October)
Members enjoyed a final sunny afternoon of the 2016 season with four rounds of doubles play. Afternoon tea in the clubhouse followed, with club tournament trophies presented to Len, Lawrence, Mark and Alison. The club is now closed until April 2017.
GC Match (Posted 30 September 2016)
Leicester A won against Ashby A at home in their FEMCC Division One match. Alison, David & Richard looked like the underdogs on paper with a combined handicap of 8 whilst the Ashby team rolled up with three players with a combined handicap of -1. After three rounds of singles and doubles, Leicester were ahead 4-2, but Ashby pulled back in the fourth round to bring the score back to 5-4. It all came down to the last round and both Alison and David manged to win their games to take the final score to 7-5 and the first time that Leicester has beaten Ashby in the league.
Len Sumpter Wins The Pavilion Cup (Posted: 3 September)
Rain eventually stopped play at the club's tournament for novices today, but eight players in their frst two years at the club managed to get three rounds in before the clouds opened. At the end of the first round, it was Gill, James, Len and Sue ahead of the others. Wins for Len and Sue in the second round kept them ahead, but they then had to play each other in the third round and Len clinched the tournament with a 7-2 win. Well done to all who played.
David Bell Wins Saturday Series (Posted: 13 August 2016)
Alison, David, Geoff and Mark played in the August Saturday Series golf croquet day tournament. David won two of his games comfortably, but was taken to wire by Geoff who was playing above par all morning and had beaten Alison earlier in the event. Scores: David (7-2, 7-6, 7-1), Mark: (2-7, 7-6, 7-5), Alison (4-7, 6-7, 1-7) and Geoff (7-4, 6-7, 5-7).
GC Match (Posted: 7 August 2016)
Leicester A won against Long Eaton A at home in their FEMCC Division One match. Alison, Mark and Richard had a delayed start due to lock problems at the clbhouse. One resolved, Leicester took an early lead and were 4-2 up by the end of the third round and the doubles games. Long Eaton pulled Leicester back to 5-4 in the fifth round of singles, leaving the match to be decided in the last and final round. Mark won his game quickly taking the score to 6-4. Long Eaton won the next taking the score back to 6-5. So Leicester needed Alison to win the last game of the day. With a closely fought game going to 6-6, it was off to the 13th hoop. Following numerous shots and clearances, Alison held her nerve and got her ball in the jaws of the hoop, Long Eaton missed a long jump shot and Alison tapped her ball through for a 7-5 victory for Leicester.

Leicester B won against Torksey at home in their FEMCC Division Three match. Geoff, Chris and Josie took a quick lead in the first round and were 4-2 up by the end of the third round of double and singles. Our team put the match beyond Torksey's reach by winning all three games in the fouth round, taking the score up to 7-2. The fifth round was a formality and the macth ended 8-4 to Leicester. This was the last game in the season for Leicester B.
Leicester B won against North Hykeham B away in their FEMCC Division Three match. Ron, Sue and Geoff went down 0-2 in the first round but recovered to 3-3 by the third. Wins by Ron and Sue took them 5-4 ahead in the fourth round and then wins from Ron and Geoff in the last round nailed it at 7-5. Great result.

Leicester A won against Richmond Park away in their FEMCC Division One match. Alison, David and Richard stormed ahead to 5-1 by the end of the third round of doubles and singles. Richmond Park pulled it back to 6-3 in the fourth round, but Leicester held their nerve with two more wins in the last round to deliver a convincing 8-4 win away on a difficult lawn
Leicester B lost 4-8 against Long Eaton B at home in their FEMCC Division Three match. The match started well and it was 1-1 at round one, but Long Eaton won both games in the second round and all three games in the fourth. So Leicester went into the fifth and final round 2-7 down and even two good wins from John and Geoff could only bring the score back to 4-8
National Forest GC Open
David Bell was the runner up in the national Ascot Cup qualifying tournament at Ashby. Following a qualifying day on the Saturday, David beat Tim King (Ashby) 2-0 in the quarter final and JP Moberly (Durham) 2-1 in the semi final. The final against Martin French (Ipswich) was 1-1 and decided on the final game which went to 6-6 and then the golden hoop.
Leicester A won 7-5 against Pinchbeck at home in their FEMCC Division One match. After the first three rubbers it was 3-3, but then Leicester pulled ahead in the fourth with strong 7-3 wins by both Mark and Richard. Leicester sealed the match in the fifth with 2 more wins by David and Mark. A convincing win against a very strong visiting team.
Leicester B lost 5-7 to Branston B at home in their FEMCC Division Three match.
Mark Buckley Wins Saturday Series
David, Lawrence, Richard, Mark and Alison played in the June Saturday Series golf croquet day tournament. Mark won all four of his games and was taken to the extra hoop in three of those (7-6, 7-2, 7-6, and 7-6), but held his nerve on each occasion to clinch the event.
Leicester B lost 4-8 to Bakewell B away in their FEMCC Division Three match.
Leicester Wins Bass Shield
Our team in the FEMCC golf croquet tournament (David, Mark and Richard) have won the Bass Shield for the fourth consecutive year. In the preliminary round, Leicester won its rubbers convincingly against Darley Dale and Ashby B 3-0, 2-1, 3-0 and 2-1 progressing to the final with ease. The final against Ashby A was a much closer match, but Leicester held their nerve and won by 3.5 - 2.5 games. David also won the Coors Cup for the player with the most wins (6) closely followed by Mark in second place (with 5.5).
Car Park Works
The work on the new procession route has started at Victoria Park and there may be restricted access to the pavilion car park. You have to pay to park on the Victoria Park car parks during the day AND in the evening. But it is free parking on Sundays. We have car park permits in the tall cupboard next to the fridge which means you can park for free, but you must put the permit back afterwards.
