DAN'S BATTLE WITH MND
Dan Granger was formally diagnosed with MND in September 2025 and his trajectory since then has been very sudden. Prior to MND he was a police officer in Leicestershire constabulary for 30 years and was incredibly active, taking part in multiple fundraising runs and half marathons. Now he is confined to an electric wheelchair and is on a ventilator 24 hours a day. Carers attend to him three times a day and he has been forced to have a lift installed at his house along with a wet room. To get around his wife has had to acquire a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. It is these adjustments that the fundraising has helped to pay for to date. However, his condition continues to decline and so additional adjustments (additional care) and equipment will be required. Future funding will help to pay for new equipment, particularly a new chair as he loses the use of his motor skills. It will also help to pay for carers to accompany them on family trips so that they can continue making memories. Website: https://www.gofundme.com/f/dans-battle-with-mnd
STAND
Started by one of our member's son (Tom) in 2014, it's original function was intercepting prosthetic limbs, that an EU directive had decreed had to go to landfill, and sending them over to Africa where there is an acute shortage of prosthetics, and has, because of that, to date got thousands of African amputees literally back on their feet. The charity is still run by Tom, but along side the recycling of the prosthetics, they offer education, training and community support to amputees and prosthetic technicians. UK Charity No: 1211617.
